That’s Handy!

We all love the “ahh” moment when we find something neat and useful, a simple solution to an irritating problem.  Then we all say “that’s handy”.

That’s what this site is here for.  To share the little things that help us all glide though life, without sweating the small stuff.

Ideas and suggestions are always most welcome : please do contact us   Share what works for you, and make all our lives just a little bit easier.

Where does our time go?

It’s amazing how much time our time-saving gadgets take.  I have my clothes washed by the washing machine, the dishes are washed by the dishwasher, and the cooking is done in seconds by the microwave.  Compared to my Dad, who did all these things the old-fashioned manual way, I should have several spare hours every day.  Strangely it hasn’t worked out like that.  where has my time gone, and how do I get it back ?

My Dad did not own a car until he was in his late thirties.  He relied on buses, or his push bike, or a little Honda step-through moped.  I own a car, and drive everywhere.  Dad always found lots of time for the family, the house, and his interests.  I always feel short of time.  So, when I find a way of saving a few hours, I think, that’s handy !

Life Hacks ? Common Sense

Some folks call handy ideas “life hacks”, and like to think they are a modern invention.  Well, some of them, like how to keep your computer cables tidy, certainly are not solutions Dad ever needed.  Otherwise though, life hacks are just another name for common sense ideas.  The old story of tying a knot in your hanky to help you remember something is a life hack, and a lot quicker and easier than adding a alert to your phone calendar.

So, despite it’s name. 1000 Life Hacks is mostly about common sense advice.  Good news, there’s lots of it, and new ones are added all the time. Bad news, it’s American, so a lot of it does not apply elsewhere in the world. Here’s an example:

 Not into the Super Bowl?

Perfect. While everyone else is glued to their TVs, the rest of the world is wide open. It’s the best day of the year to hit up fancy restaurants, movie theatres, or Costco without the chaos. Consider it your annual introvert holiday.
